In our blog story Fertility mapping: the foundation for success we said that fertility mapping is critically important to helping growers determine how and where to invest their resources in the field. In this story, we look at yield analysis reporting (provided in a yield analysis report) and what you should be learning from the data, and how it will shape your future decisions.
Understand yield zone by zone across the field
A comprehensive yield analysis report allows farmers to review how successful a season was for them by determining profitability on a per zone basis. It provides a snapshot of the areas in a field that produced the best as well as those zones which under-performed.
Whereas a fertility map is used to plan for the upcoming season, a yield analysis report helps to determine how effective that strategy was and plot future moves. It is created by compiling data on what was invested in each zone and how much product was placed in that zone and overlaying it on a fertility map and then comparing that information to the yield results for each section.
Focus on optimizing production and not maximizing yield
The comprehensive yield analysis report provided to Decisive Farming’s growers is much more than a single metric of how much was produced. It allows growers to more precisely calibrate future yield expectations. By knowing the achieved yield cost X dollars to produce, the grower can optimize production by making incremental adjustments for the following season. This allows growers to stay a couple of steps ahead and build their business while setting expectations that are attainable.
Connect the dots between yield, input costs and revenue
Decisive Farming’s yield analysis report help growers track what happened on a zone level, in terms of cost, production and economic impact. By connecting yield, costs, and revenue in a single report, a true picture of return on investment can be understood by the grower. This same report can also be provided to non-variable rate technology reporting at a field level instead of a zone level.

Utilize telematics data from your equipment
Combine and grain cart telematics allows data to be automatically sent to My Farm Manager, making it available for yield analysis. With an Agrimatics grain cart telematics integration, weigh wagon data calibrates the geo-spatial yield data resulting in extremely accurate yield information.
Yield report card included with 2018 Farm Management Packages
A comprehensive yield analysis report is included with all 2018 Farm Management Packages from Decisive Farming. Yield analysis reports are integrated with Decisive Farming’s My Farm Management data management platform, which also provides grain cart telematics, variable rate seeding and fertilizer prescriptions, crop marketing, and more.
