Inventors Showcase is held every year at Manitoba Ag Days to encourage individuals and companies to develop products that will assist farmers in achieving greater efficiency in their farming operations. This year Decisive Farming won first place with Know-Risk™ Farm Management, an advanced farm risk management and crop marketing program specifically designed for farms in Western Canada.
“We’re really excited about the possibilities that Know-Risk brings to farmers in Western Canada, especially with the current transition to an open market for wheat and barley,” says Remi Schmaltz, General Manager of Decisive Farming. “Today more than ever, it’s important that growers have the right tools, information, and professional support network to manage risk and take full advantage of opportunities in the world agriculture markets.”
With the new “Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act” and the change to a voluntary Canadian Wheat Board (CWB), growers have a whole new set of important choices to make. Additionally, increased opportunities for marketing bring increased levels of vulnerability, which is exactly what Know-Risk is designed to manage.
Developed in partnership with RMI Consulting, a subsidiary of INTL FC Stone Inc, Know-Risk Farm Management was released in early 2011. Already a huge success, the current program consists of a monthly subscription that offers farmers exclusive access to a senior risk management team and a personal advisor who is available to provide expert advice about portfolio management and hedging strategies specific to each client’s customized marketing plan.
Added to this is Know-Risk Web Tools, an online deal tracking platform that provides clients with unlimited access to powerful analysis tools, custom reporting features, and 25+ market reports. Everything is updated daily to reflect current market prices. Once a subscriber’s marketing plan is in place, commodity trade execution services are also available, providing growers with over-the-counter options that can enhance margins and guarantee liquidity in the market.
Looking for more information but need more info to get started? Know-Risk™ provides an ongoing schedule of information sessions and small group workshops that introduce the basic principals of market analysis and Know-Risk web tools. “Helping educate our clients is an important part of the service – it’s more than just software and high-tech programs,” says Schmaltz.
